Android 9.0 Pie comes this year as the successor of the outstanding Android Oreo. There are plenty of new features in Android Pie, some of which you may think makes the latest flavor so appealing. It’s rolling out to Pixel devices already, and it will come to devices which participated in the beta by the end of fall. What makes it so appealing,
Intelligence, simplicity and digital well being are the three pillars of the new Android 9.0 Pie operating system, for which the official update is now available for Google Pixel phones and the Essential PH-1, the first non-Pixel phone to get the update.
Android Pie builds in hundreds of improvements, with highlights including:
1) Adaptive battery Feature :
A new feature called adaptive battery uses AI to optimize your energy consumption according to your app usage. It recognizes which apps you’re actively using, frequently using, frequently using together as a set or rarely using. Adaptive Battery and Adaptive Brightness will help improve performance and battery life.
2) Gesture navigation
A single home button, actually it looks more like a pill, is your thumb’s home base. Tap on the button to go home, swipe right to go back, swipe left to switch between recent apps, or swipe up to view recent apps or your app drawer.
3) App Actions
Another AI feature, called App Actions, learns what common tasks you complete at a specific time, place, or when an accessory is connected to the device. For example, App Actions will suggest a playlist when you connect Bluetooth headphone
4) Useful Screenshot tools
In addition to the new screenshot shortcut, Android Pie gains a new edit feature. As soon as your screenshot is saved, the preview notification will display an Edit button. Selecting Edit will open a markup tool for you to draw, crop, or highlight the screenshot before sharing it.
5) Rotate only when you want
Instead of just locking down vertical or portrait mode on your phone, Android Pie will display a button to force the screen rotation if it detects your phone has changed orientation.
When you turn the screen to landscape, tap the icon that appears at the bottom to change the orientation. Now when you turn it back to portrait it will stay in landscape unless you tap on the same button again to rotate back
6) 157 New Emoji
The early June update to Android 9 Pie includes 157 new emoji, all of which will be available in the final Android 9 Pie build. New emojis include a llama, a superhero, and a gender-neutral family.
Google has not officially confirmed when is the launch day for its new Pixel 3 series, but early rumors pointed to 4 October – for the third year running. Now insiders talking to Bloomberg suggest we’ll actually be waiting until 9 October 2018.
The launch event will, according to the source, take place in New York. Google will announce the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, as well as a Pixel Watch and a new Pixelbook.
Android 9.0 Pie isn’t as big of a leap as Android Oreo with Project Treble or Android Nougat with faster updates, but it’s full of great improvements nonetheless. At the level users will be able to take notice of, it’s simpler, smarter and focused on digital well-being in a way that many will appreciate. We look forward to spending more time with the final version to assess its high and low points in more detail.
