Cryptic Command in Amadeus

    Cryptic Command in Amadeus

An Amadeus Cryptic Command is a text-based instruction entered directly into the Amadeus GDS terminal to perform booking, ticketing, pricing and PNR management operations. Cryptic is the native language of Amadeus predating graphical interfaces by decades and it remains the fastest, most precise way to execute complex GDS operations at scale.

While modern travel platforms use Amadeus REST APIs, the underlying operations those APIs trigger are rooted in cryptic logic. Senior Amadeus developers and GDS power users who understand cryptic have a fundamental advantage: they can diagnose issues, automate workflows and build more accurate integrations.

    • AN15NOVDELBOM : Availability check DEL to BOM on 15 Nov

    • SS1Y1 : Sell 1 seat in Economy class

    • NM1SHARMA/RAHUL MR : Add passenger name to PNR

    • ER : End and retrieve (save PNR)

    • FXP : Price the itinerary

    • TTP : Issue ticket from stored fare

    • XI : Cancel entire itinerary

Graphical interfaces and APIs cannot expose every GDS function. Complex PNR operations bulk reissuance, queue automation, multi-segment pricing overrides, EDIFACT level data manipulation are faster and more reliable in cryptic. The world's largest TMCs and airline desks still run on cryptic expertise.
